Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on a straight, extendable arm which is situated on a rotating turntable. Typically, telescoping boom lifts are used for tasks which need reaching at maximum height, exceeding other types of lifts. Like for example, workers are able to perform exterior renovations or repairs on buildings of medium height but utilizing these lifts rather than having the extra work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The bucket of the boom lift generally just holds one worker. These buckets are more suited to specific tasks such as electrical repair, as opposed to window washing or general maintenance. These lifts are available in gas or electric configurations and are available with both outdoor and indoor tires.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces under the work platform. These braces squeeze together to be able to push the platform straight up. Because these machinery should be positioned directly below the work site, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, offer bigger platforms that enable the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface once the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of a problem with these types of machinery, as they should sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are great for being utilized for cladding or window installation, as they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a good choice for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The cherry picker or boom truck refers to the utility vehicle normally utilized to raise workers for different jobs performed at heights. Generally, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and operates the machinery. There is a bucket for where the worker could stand in addition to an actuator arm for raising the boom and a winch for carrying.
Boom trucks take workers to heights which would usually be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to lift heavy materials or equipment from one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types that can perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different kinds of equipment excel at various tasks and are suitable for certain applications and finishing certain jobs.
